Mimecast Administration Console - Exporting Records

This article contains information on exporting data from the Mimecast Administration Console, including steps to export records, file format options, export limits, troubleshooting large exports, and using APIs for data extraction. (e.g. Audit Logs and Impersonation Protect Logs).

As an administrator, you may wish to:

      • Analyze or troubleshoot the data displayed in the administration console record listings.
      • Export data for reporting purposes.

To allow you to do this, you can export a list of records by:

  1. Displaying the required records.
  2. Clicking on the Export Data button.
  3. Selecting the Columns to export.

The available columns represent the data displayed in the dialog and therefore differ from dialog to dialog.

  4. Select a File Format to export the data into. The options are:
      • CSV
      • XLS
  1. Select an Export Option. The options are:
    Field / Option Description
Download Downloads the file to your chosen location.
Send Email Sends the file to the email address associated with your administrator account.
  2. Click on the Export button.

In addition to using the Mimecast Administration Console, you can export records using an API.

File Size Restrictions

Each export is restricted to a maximum number of rows per file, with the maximum number dependent on the method used to export them. These are:

      • 50,000 rows via the Administration Console (archive search, managed senders, audit logs, search logs)
      • 10,000 rows via the API.
      • 10,000 rows via the Message Center (excluding Message Tracking).
      • 5,000 rows via the Message Tracking.

If you try to export a file that contains more than the permitted number of records, the following message is displayed:

Maximum rows to export : 50000. If more than 50000 rows are required please adjust search parameters and run multiple exports.

Number of rows in this export : 161715

If you see this message, the export file is still produced, but the file is cut off at the 55,001st record. If you need to export more records, use the searching/filtering functionality (see the link below) to reduce the number of records to be exported and run more than one export.
