Mimecast Synchronization Engine can be configured to archive historical Instant Message (IM) conversations in Microsoft Lync.
IM Archive must be enabled for the organization's Mimecast account to utilize the available functionality.
IM Archive assists the business compliance requirements to add business-related IM conversations to the Mimecast archive.

How do I use IM Archive?
Once the MSE site has been configured, an IM Archive Definition, Schedule, and Task must be created to begin the archive process. Navigate to the Services | IM Archive menu:
The IM Archive Dashboard includes the IM Archive Task Status, IM Usage Statistics, IM Archive Search options, and Recent Activity.
IM Archive Task Status
Displays a status indicator for the IM Tasks that are in place. A red icon indicates that all the active tasks need attention, while an orange icon indicates that one or more tasks need attention. A green icon indicates that all the tasks are running. Click the 'x tasks' link to view the tasks.
IM Usage Statistics
This widget displays a report of the IM Conversations archived over the last seven or 30 days, which can be toggled by clicking the appropriate link. Hover over the chart graphics for additional information. Click the legend items to toggle the Group and Person-to-Person (P2P) conversations.
IM Archive Search
Use the Search widget to locate a specific IM conversation using the available filters:
Recent Activity
A summary of existing IM Tasks that have recently run is displayed if already configured for your account:
Use the Logs button to access task-specific logs for tracking and troubleshooting purposes. The Logs are also accessible from a menu when editing an existing task, as described in this article. The View All button will display a full list of all IM Tasks.
Viewing Archived IM Conversations
When files are archived using Mimecast Synchronization Engine, they can be viewed by Administrators with relevant permissions. When configuring the IM Archive Task, a folder is automatically created in the Smart Tag folder structure, shown in a specialized view within the Services | IM Archive | View Archives menu.
It may take up to an hour before the IM messages are available in Mimecast.
The Administrator's Role and permissions will determine if they can view the files. Administrators with access to the Smart Tags menu can see the archived emails. Still, only those Administrators with the protected permission Manage Smart Tags can view the content of these file attachments.
Smart Tags cannot be renamed or deleted if associated with an IM Archive Task.
