Simply Migrate - Migrate MCZip files to Mimecast

This article will guide you through migrating MCZip file to the Mimecast API using Simply Migrate. To do this, follow the below steps:

  1. Determine where the MCZip files are located.

These would likely be in the drive letter if it is a locally attached drive, alternatively, they can be in the UNC path.

  1. Determine if the files are grouped Per User or Non Per User.
  2. If the data is grouped as Non-Per User, check if it is in Journal Envelope Format or Standard Journal Format.

From the UI, there are two ways to create jobs.

The first is upon initial installation. Following the wizard will guide you to selecting the Source.

If the product has already been set up and initialized, you need to start the job wizard from within the Batches and Jobs view.

To Start the Job Wizard from within the Batches and Jobs view:

  1. Select the Green List icon against the Batch you wish to create the jobs and choose Job Creation Wizard from the list.

  1. Select the Source selection. For the purposes of this article, we will be choosing “MCZip Files”. Enter the path you gathered from the first steps above, and also the answer to the question about the files being zipped. Select Next.

In this example, the MCZip files are on a network share so we use the UNC path. If we have an export of the folder metadata we can enable the migrate metadata option and supply the path to the .xms file location.

  1. The system will display all the zip files found and if the files are grouped per user, the user's email address will be assigned to the folder. Select Create Jobs.

In the banner above the list, you will see that you can add a date filter, filter the list of jobs, and handle Bad address resolution.

Most of the time, you shouldn't need to handle any of these, but you will be prompted with date filters when you select Create Jobs.

Filtering the jobs will only change the view you have of the jobs, when you click create jobs, Simply Migrate will attempt to create jobs for all items ticked in the, not just the ones visible in the filter.

  1. Select Create the Jobs on the date filters prompt.

Check that the number of jobs being created is correct, and ensure you don’t require a date filter.

If you attempt to create jobs for the same files (in the same batch), we have created safety measures to avoid duplication of jobs. You will be shown the original job ID and a No Entry sign indicating that the job has not been created because it already exists.
