Overview
Mimecast is pleased to announce the release of a set of enhancements which simplify the configuration and management of Allow/Block Rules within CI. This is done by allowing administrators to control how messages are handled from specific senders. Administrators can now determine which operator (AND; OR) is used when Mimecast processes Allow/Block rules.
What's changing
The functionality of the Envelope and Header Address fields within the rule details page have changed in the following ways:
- A Condition Dropdown field has been introduced, enabling the choice of operator as shown below. The contents of the Envelope Address and Header Address fields control when the selected condition from the new dropdown field is enabled.
- If an email address or domains are added into only one of the address fields the selected condition will not be enabled. Only if both the envelope and header fields are populated with an email address or domain, will the “condition dropdown” be enabled.
With the new configuration, administrators can create a rule with multiple addresses or domains, in either of the address fields. Each entry within an address field will be matched using an OR, resulting in the rules forming a list, as opposed to the creation of individual entries per address.
- If multiple entries are added into one or both of the address fields, each address will now be matched using the OR condition, instead of the current use of the AND operator.
The following changes have been made within the CI User Interface:
- Allow and Block Rule Overview: The overview page has been updated for rules that are created using the new experience to include the condition and the addresses used in the rule.
- The Detections page now displays the message content that triggered the application of the rule.
- The CI Audit Logs now include the condition used in any rules that are created.
Recommended actions
For customers with existing Allow/Block rules that are configured with Envelope and Header addresses, these rules will be automatically updated to use the AND operator. Should this be incorrect, administrators will need to manually update the rules accordingly (To use the OR operator).
