Policies - Null Address In Policies

This article describes how to configure the Null Address in Policies.

Q: How are null addresses handled by the Mimecast gateway?
A: Messages with a null sender address (i.e., they have <> as an envelope address) are treated by the Mimecast gateway as external addresses.
Q: We're seeing an increase in the number of messages in our rejected and deferred queue. What could be causing this?
A: Check your policies to see what they are capturing. It could be they're set to capture external messages, thereby including those from null addresses. If this is the case, we recommend changing the sending service to not use a null address.
Q: How can I configure a policy to capture a null address?
A: As the address could indicate the internal postmaster, any policy you use to catch all inbound mail should be set as follows:
Field / Option Setting
Applies From Everyone
Applies To Internal Addresses
