Mimecast for Outlook - Notifications

This article contains information on configuring notification settings for Mimecast for Outlook, including administrator-controlled application settings, end-user preferences for disabling on-hold notifications, and examples of notification types for better customization.

Introduction

There are two ways to control notifications:

Application Settings

Read this section in conjunction with the Configuring Application Settings page.

As an Administrator, you can control the number of notifications that your end users receive (e.g. for held messages) by amending the value of the Notification Level option in the Outlook section of Application Settings, via Mimecast Administration Console | Users & Groups | Applications.

Mimecast for Outlook Group Application Settings

This option has the following values:

Value Description
Errors Only Only notifications displaying error messages are displayed.
Warnings and Errors Displays the same notifications as the Errors Only value, plus all warning messages, but not for held messages.
Information, Warnings, and Errors Displays the same notifications as the Warnings and Errors value, plus all information messages (e.g., held messages). This is the default option.

End User Preference

As an End User, you  can set a preference to disable notifications for on-hold messages, by using the following steps:

  1. Click on the Gear icon.
  2. Click on the Preferences menu item.
  3. Enable the Disable On Hold Notifications option.

Notifications are being added and amended in each Mimecast for Outlook release. To help you decide the value to set in the Notification Level option, the table below gives some examples:
