Who's affected Sync & Recover

Overview

Mimecast is pleased to announce enhancements to Sync & Recover for Email Security Cloud Integrated.  These features will be available immediately to customers with a currently active subscription to Cloud Integrated and the Sync & Recover add-on.

What's changing

Changes and enhancements include:

  • The ability to sync Notes, Calendar Events, Tasks and Contacts.
  • The ability to adjust retention policies based on data type.
  • The ability to Enable / Disable sync based on data type.
  • Adjust retention periods from 1 - 36,135 days (or 99 years) for each data type.
  • Ability to export and restore all applicable data for all new data types or select specific items from multiple data types.
  • Each data type will appear as a separate section in the mailbox snapshot view.
  • Data types excluded from synchronization will be indicated in the UI.
  • When viewing a mailbox, the UI will indicate this if the data type is set to sync but the mailbox has no data.
  • The ability to de-provision accounts from Cloud Integrated's Sync & Recover.
  • To protect against data loss, customers have the ability to define the position of their policy upfront and have it take effect upon creation.

Please note the following considerations:

  • Data types that do not require synchronization should be disabled via the applicable Retention Policy.
  • Turning off a data type will stop future syncs and remove any existing data in the archive for that type.
  • Customers preferring retention periods other than the default of 2555 days can adjust this for each data type.
  • Reducing the retention period for a data type will result in the removal of existing data older than this period from the archive.

Recommended actions

  1. Administrators must re-consent Microsoft permissions via the Configuration | Service Authorization page. When completing the Microsoft sign-in, you will see the additional permissions listed. Granting Mimecast access to these will ensure the new data types can be accessed from Office 365.

Administrators will see a notification on the Configuration and Service Authorization pages indicating missing permissions. A notification will also appear at the top of the mailbox snapshot view.

  1. Administrators must ensure new data types are included in applicable policies for them to function. The Mimecast Default policy will include 7-year (2,555-day) retention for all data types.

We recommend that you review Sync & Recover for further information.
