Issue

There are differences between the Account Assessment Report and Standard Report Email and Rejection statistics.

It is known that in some instances, these differences may cause confusion, however, this is not on the Mimecast Product Team Roadmap to alter the volume calculations. 

Explanation

The volumes on the Account Assessment and Standard Reports are calculated from different sources as follows:

  1. Inbound / Outbound:
  • Account Assessment Report: The Inbound / Outbound volumes measure delivered messages. The logs are taken from the delivery queue. Connection attempts, incomplete SMTP sessions, retries and bounces, are excluded from the volume calculations.
  • Standard Monthly Report: Connection attempts and retries are included in the volume statistics. This can be seen in the Rejections section under the sender failed to retry category in pie chart of the Report.
  1. Internal and Journal:
  • Account Assessment Report: Volume measured on these separately.
  • Standard Monthly Report: Volume combined as internal.
  1. Rejections:
  • Account Assessment Report: Inbound and Outbound rejections volumes separated. Bounces, SMPT errors, and retries are excluded.
  • Standard Monthly Report: Inbound and Outbound rejections volumes combined. Retries, SMPT errors, and retries are included.
