Directories - Domain Verification Using CNAME Records

This article contains information on adding a CNAME record for internal domain verification in Mimecast, including necessary steps and requirements, such as the Hostname and Target from Mimecast and access to your domain host.

Part of adding an Internal Domain to your Mimecast account is owner verification. This guide outlines the general steps required to add a CNAME record to your domain's DNS record. Common domain hosts include GoDaddy, Enom and IONOS. For specific details relating to your vendor, check their provided knowledge base articles. 

What you will need

      • The Hostname and Target provided by Mimecast. 
      • Access to your domain host. 
      • Ensure that you have adjusted your DNS record TTL as required. See the Email Security Onboarding Checklist for further details. 

To add a CNAME record:

  1. Log in to your Domain Host.
  2. Navigate to your DNS Records
  3. Click Add
  4. Select the Record Type to CNAME.
  5. Enter the Hostname and Target provided by Mimecast.
  6. Save your record.
