This article contains information on recommended security measures for customers using Mimecast Server Connections with on-premise Microsoft Exchange, including updating the EWS Master Mailbox Password and verifying server connection authentication.
Mimecast recommends that customers periodically take specific measures in order to ensure the security of their non-Mimecast accounts and infrastructure. This guide has been assembled to consolidate our recommendations and applies to customers utilizing a Mimecast Server Connection in conjunction with on-premise Microsoft Exchange.
Mimecast Server Connections
Considerations
Customers using Exchange Web Services in conjunction with on-premise Exchange for Sync and Recover, Continuity Monitor, and Internal Email Protect products:

Once the Master Mailbox password has been refreshed, it will need to be applied to your Mimecast server connection. For further information, see the Managing Server Connections page.
To update your EWS Master Mailbox Password:
- Log in to the Mimecast Administration Console.
- Select the Services | Server Connections menu item.
- Click on the Edit Connection button to the right of the on-premise server connection to be changed.
- In your Active Directory environment, reset the password for the Master Mailbox Password specified in your Server Connection.
- Enter the newly refreshed Master Mailbox Password into the Master Mailbox Password field.
- Specify a known email address on your domain (e.g., usera@yourdomain.com) in the Mailbox Check field to verify authentication to your server connection. When you are ready, click on the Test Connection button.
- Click Save Changes.
Once you have verified connectivity in Step 7 and saved your changes in Step 8, this action is complete. Support is available for technical questions, but you do not need to notify us when you complete these changes.
