This guide will take you through the process of requesting a takedown of a malicious website from your dedicated dashboard and what you should expect when doing so.
Requesting a Takedown
In order to request a takedown from your dedicated dashboard, you will need to click the Request Take Down button within the console, this can be done either in the main dashboard view or within the URL Details view of the specific URL.
In the main dashboard view, you will need to click the additional options button to the right of the URL itself, shown below:
Once clicked, a popup will appear asking to confirm the request:
To get the original email please follow these steps:
For Outlook:
- Select the email, then click File > Save As, and select “Outlook Message format-Unicode” as the Save As Type.
For Outlook Web (365):
- Click on New > Email Message. From the message list, select the email you want to export, and drop it onto the body of the new email.
The email will be attached as a .eml file to the new message.
For Gmail:
- Select and open the email.
- Click the menu button (next to the reply arrow on the left of the email) > Show Original.
- Click Download original.
Header information which contains clickable components, like a logo, navigational tags, login buttons, and more, may be beneficial in expediting takedown.
If you are certain that this website is attacking your brand and you would like to take it down - click the Take Down button.
Takedown is not guaranteed and requires further analysis by the BEP SOC team.
Steps after Requesting a Takedown
Following the takedown request - a new status will appear, Pending Take Down:
This status indicates that the managed services team has received your request and will follow up and initiate the takedown process, from this point on - the rest of the work will be done by the Managed Services team ensuring you are kept up to date with the progress.
Once the takedown has been successful and the threat has been removed, you will be updated by the managed services team and the Pending Take Down status will change to Taken Down:
Ensuring your Account has Takedown Credits
In order to request a takedown, you will need to have takedown credits associated with your account. To check whether you have credits, you can use the left navigation menu to go into your Settings tab.
Once there, you will be able to see how many takedowns you have purchased and how many you have remaining:
