Simply Migrate - Overview

This article contains information on Simply Migrate, which is used for migrating email data to newer content archive environments, including getting started steps and supported connectors for both Mimecast/Partner-managed and Self-Service options.

What is Simply Migrate?

Simply Migrate is archive data migration technology for migrating email data to newer content archive environments.

Simply Migrate’s migration software is designed to include specific connectors into certain existing legacy archives (incl. popular” legacy archive vendors such as Dell EMC SourceOne, Veritas Enterprise Vault, Exchange, and Office 365), which can be used to provide end to end secure, encrypted migration into the Mimecast archive.

Simply Migrate migration intelligence is built to integrate with legacy archives and transform the data into ingestible formats that can easily be consumed by the Mimecast Cloud Archive.
The end-to-end process relies on a client-side application installed on a customer-provided server infrastructure that is paired with the Mimecast Ingestion API endpoints located in the Mimecast Service layer within each of Mimecast’s regional data centers. The diagram below illustrates this end-to-end process:

Simply Migrate does not support every archive source; support for new connectors is under constant evaluation. Always check if the connector is available for your archive source.

Mimecast offers three models for using Simply Migrate:

  • The Customer Self-Service model allows customers to push data directly into the Mimecast platform using the API.
  • The Partner-managed model is where certified Mimecast partners use the software to migrate their customer data into the Mimecast platform.
  • With the Mimecast-managed model, the customer either provides the data or access to the data for Mimecast to perform the migration.

Getting Started

The graph below lists the steps to get started with Simply Migrate.

  1. Get your data sources ready: The customer should either confirm they have a Journaling Connector in place to their Mimecast account or validate they have a static historical system (see Supported Connectors.)

  2. Prerequisites: Focus on completing the required environment configuration, including all prerequisite access and supporting software installations. See Simply Migrate - Prerequisites.

  3. Setting up your account: only when your account is set up in the Mimecast Administration Console will you be able to download and configure Simply Migrate. See Simply Migrate - Installation & Configuration.

  4. Download and install the Simply Migrate App: See Simply Migrate - Installation & Configuration.
