Overview
Mimecast is releasing a new way to create secure connections between Mimecast and your third-party applications, such as on-premises Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft 365. This update requires customers to create new secure connections. The new connectors use the OAuth 2.0 standard for authentication, which provides enhanced security by applying the cybersecurity Principle of Least Privilege (PoLP) to your service accounts.
For cloud environments, such as Microsoft 365, the new connectors require one connector per Mimecast service, whereas legacy connectors could be shared across the entire Mimecast product stack. Currently, on-premise Microsoft Exchange server connectors cannot be migrated to use OAuth 2.0 and can continue to use a single connector to connect the entire Mimecast product stack.
If you have legacy connectors to migrate, a prompt within the Mimecast Administration Console will alert you upon logging on. A guided migration experience helps to make moving your connectors to the latest OAuth 2.0 framework as simple as possible. Each connector migration should take approximately five minutes; all configurations, tasks, and policies will automatically apply.
