Mimecast Customer Care - Mimecast - Introduction

This page lists various guides introducing Mimecast, its infrastructure, and security. It is intended for Administrators.

Infrastructure

  • About Mimecast: Describes how email Security, Continuity, and Archiving are consolidated into one platform to allow organizations to consolidate emails and files for ease of use and administration.
  • Product Life Cycle: Mimecast strives to continually innovate and evolve its solutions, providing customers with richer functionality and more robust products. In order to achieve this, certain versions of software will reach the end of their lives.
  • Legal Information: No part of this documentation may be reproduced or transmitted in any form or by any means, electronic or mechanical, for any purpose, without the express prior written permission of Mimecast Limited.
  • Mimecast Data Centers and URLs: Details of the Mimecast Service Network Ranges. These details can be used to ensure that the organization's infrastructure accepts connections to and from the Mimecast service.
  • Mimecast Gateway: The Mimecast Gateway is a cloud-based service that provides services that are available to your organization. Emails are routed from your organization to Mimecast for outbound delivery, and MX records are pointed to Mimecast for inbound delivery.

Security

  • Security Systems: When Mimecast processes an inbound email, checks, and scans are performed to ensure only legitimate emails are accepted. Part of this processing includes Mimecast’s proprietary ARMed SMTP (Advanced Reputation Management).
  • Secure Socket Layers (SSL) Certificates: An SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) Certificate enables encryption of all information moving across the specified protocol. For some Mimecast connections, Administrators have the option to use unencrypted or encrypted connections.
  • Email Encryption Guide: Mimecast can connect or synchronize with your infrastructure utilizing secure SSL-based encryption methods. Using encryption increases the security of your traffic, and requires a valid SSL certificate to be installed.
