Connect Process - DNS Validation Troubleshooting

This article describes information on validating DNS CNAME, TXT, or MX records in the Email Security Setup Wizard, including troubleshooting steps for propagation and manual validation.

After adding or changing your DNS CNAME, TXT, or MX records, you need to validate these changes in the Email Security Setup Wizard. If your DNS records aren't validating, try using the following steps.

Validate the Implemented Records

Check to ensure the records that should have been created are visible in your DNS control panel. If the record changes are not yet submitted, we will not be able to verify them.

Allow your DNS Records to Propagate

Some DNS providers take longer than others to update. Depending on the configured DNS Time To Live (TTL), it could take a few hours to validate. Ensure you have set the shortest TTL possible. See the checklist for further details.

Manually Validate Records

Sometimes there is no other option but to manually validate your DNS records. This can be caused by certain DNS providers or by customizations you add to your records.
To validate a DNS record manually, use the Unix command "DIG" or the Windows command "nslookup". If the "ANSWER" section is empty, this usually means that the record does not exist or has yet to propagate.
