This article describes how you can decode and check the safety of a URL from the Targeted Threat Protection - URL Protect dashboard.
When checking if a URL is safe, ensure the checks are performed against the real URL and not the Mimecast rewritten URL. If the URL is rewritten, you will need to decode this first using the steps below.
Decoding a URL
All URLs are rewritten by Mimecast. Using this tool, you can identify the real URL a user will be taken to when they click a link:
- Log on to the Mimecast Administration Console.
- Navigate to Services | URL Protect.
- Click on the URL Tools button.
- Click on the Check and Decode URLs menu item.
- Enter the rewritten URL into the Decode URLs field.
- Click on the Decode button. The real URL is then displayed.
Allowing a Decoded URL
Once you've decoded a URL, you can allow it. This prevents having to decode the URL again.
- Click on the Allow button. A confirmation message is displayed confirming the allowance.
Blocking a Decoded URL
Once you've decoded a URL, you can block it:
- Click on the Block button. A confirmation message is displayed confirming the allowance.
Checking a URL
If you are in doubt about whether a URL is safe, you can check it using a variety of scanning options:
- Log on to the Mimecast Administration Console.
- Navigate to Services | URL Protect.
- Click on the URL Tools button.
- Click on the Check and Decode URLs menu item.
- Enter the URL to be checked into the Check URLs fields.
- Click the Check button.
- The result is displayed in the "Scan Result" column. Results will be shown for all three Scan Categories: Relaxed, Moderate, and Aggressive.
