Message Routing - Monitoring Message Flow

This article contains information on using the Email Delivery, Email Security, and Message Center in Mimecast's Administration Console to troubleshoot email delivery, manage stripped attachments, and monitor email flow, including detailed descriptions of available functionalities and their purposes.

Administrators can use the Message Center, Email Delivery, and Email Security menus to monitor email flow, manage stripped attachments, or troubleshoot email delivery. Administrators can release stripped attachments, view all emails that Mimecast has rejected when performing security checks, and investigate why emails are in the delivery retry schedule (among others).

Most email administrators will be familiar with requests from end users about why certain emails have not been received or delivered. The viewers and queues in the Message Center allow Administrators to troubleshoot delayed or failed email delivery and view or release attachments stripped from emails.

To access the following functionalities:

  1. Log in to the Mimecast Administration Console.
  2. Select either of the following menus:
      • Message Center
      • Email Delivery
      • Email Security

Refer to the table below to see what each menu item contains.

Message Center Description
Accepted Messages Allows you to review recently sent and received messages that are awaiting indexing.
Bounced Messages Allows you to view messages that couldn't be delivered to their recipients.
Held Messages Allows you to view, search, and release held messages and associated logs.
Message Delivery

View and manage inbound and outbound messages waiting to be delivered by Mimecast. This includes messages that failed initially but are awaiting a retry. Also displays accepted messages awaiting delivery, including those by bulk processing policies.

  • Bulk Delivery: Allows you to view and manage messages subject to a Bulk Sender policy, but still in a queue awaiting delivery.
Message Tracking Allows you to search the message status queues to locate a message and troubleshoot delivery.
Processing Queues

Allows you to view and temporarily manage queued messages while checks are performed. Also displays a list of accepted messages that have yet to undergo delivery.

  • Bulk Processing: Allows you to view and manage messages subject to a Bulk Sender policy and awaiting processing.
Rejected and Deferred Messages Displays the details of recently rejected and deferred messages.

 

Email Delivery Description
Secure Messaging Displays the details of all incoming and outgoing messages processed by Secure Messaging.

 

Email Security  Description
Attachment Protection Allows you to manage Targeted Threat Protection services to safeguard against malicious attachments.
Attachment Protection Logs Displays a log of attachments scanned by Targeted Threat Protection - Attachment Protect in the last 30 days.
Attachments Allows you to review and release attachments that have been stripped or blocked from incoming messages.
Data Leak Prevention Displays details of messages where actions have been applied by a Content Examination Policy.
Impersonation Protection Displays a log of messages scanned by Targeted Threat Protection - Impersonation Protect in the last 30 days.
URL Protection Displays a log of URLs scanned by Targeted Threat Protection - URL Protect in the last 30 days.
