This article contains information on forcing re-registration for Mimecast Two-Step Authentication, including steps to reset a user's authenticator setup and details about confirmation emails sent after successful re-registration.
Forcing Re-registration
When a device a user has used to set up an Authenticator application with Mimecast is lost or stolen, you can force them to re-register. This removes the previous secret associated with the user from Mimecast and forces them through the registration process the next time they log in to Mimecast.
You can force re-registration by using the following steps:
- Log in to the Mimecast Administration Console.
- Navigate to Directories | Internal Directories.
- Click on the Domain that the user belongs to.
- Click on the User. The user settings page is displayed.
- Click on the Force Reregistration button in the 2-Step Authentication section.
- Click on Save and Exit to return to the user list.
When a user has successfully registered their second factor, they will receive a confirmation email:
Points to note:
- The confirmation email cannot be customized within Notification Sets.
- The confirmation email supports Branding and Preferred Language (English or German).
- The confirmation email is a security feature and, therefore, cannot be disabled.
