This article contains information on integrating the Mimecast Archive Search within Salesforce, enabling email searches by text, contact, or account, with filters and widgets for enhanced user experience. It is intended for Administrators.
For Mimecast customers that use Salesforce, it is possible to embed Mimecast Archive search within the Salesforce platform. This allows users to perform archive searches for emails that match search criteria, contacts, and company (account) domain names. The integration is delivered through a Mimecast application for Salesforce. The integration has the following features:
- Mimecast Email Archive search from the Salesforce User Interface (UI). The following search types
- are available:
- Free text.
- Using email addresses of Salesforce contacts.
- Using domains of Salesforce accounts.
- With subject, date/time, and "has attachment" filters.
- Contextual widgets that can be added to Contact and/or Account pages to automatically display email between the logged-in user and the contact/account.
If the user has SAML authentication enforced, you will not be able to log in and you will not be able to use the integration. Mimecast native 2-step authentication is supported.
Installing the Integration
- Login to your Salesforce Org.

Once launched, the app is available to use in the Lightning experience as a Tab or in the main window in the classic experience. The first task for the user is to log in to Mimecast; this is a one-time operation (unless the user's password changes, when they will need to log in again).
If the user has SAML authentication enforced, you will not be able to log in, and you will not be able to use the integration. Mimecast native 2-step authentication is supported.
Free Text Search
Once authenticated with Mimecast, you can then start searching the archive:
The user can use simple keywords here as well as all of the advanced search syntax's supported by any Mimecast application. Examples of these are documented in the Email Security Cloud Gateway - Using Search Terms guide.
Search by Contact
Switching the search mode into Contact search using the dropdown on the left provides an additional text box filter that users can use to search for Salesforce contacts. This text box searches against contacts found in Salesforce. Once the desired contact is found and selected, the search box is automatically populated with the contact's email address.
When you run this search, all messages between the logged-in user and the contact's email address are returned.
Search by Account
Switching the search mode into Account search using the drop-down on the left provides an additional text box filter that users can use to search for Salesforce Accounts. This text box searches against Accounts found in Salesforce. Once the desired Account is found and selected, the search box is automatically populated with the domain found in the website field of the Account.
When you run this search, all messages between the logged-in user and the account's email domain are returned.
Search Filters
All search types support filters. The available filters are:
- Subject.
- Date / time.
- Has Attachments.

Selecting a message will open the message content in a new tab:
Attachments are displayed at the bottom of the screen. When selected, the file is downloaded to the user's local machine.
Add Widget to Contact / Accounts Page
Contact and Account search widgets are available to be added to the respective page in the Salesforce UI. When the widget is added to the contacts page, the widget will display all messages between the logged-in user and the email address of the contact being viewed.
When the widget is added to the accounts page, the widget will display all messages between the logged-in user and the domain of the website field on the account being viewed.
