Mimecast for Mac - Searching

This article contains information on using search functionality in Mimecast for Mac, including quick and advanced search options, saving and refining searches, and managing recent and saved searches for efficient email and archive management.

Prerequisites

Your Administrator has enabled Archiving as an account package, and allowed use of Mimecast for Mac under the relevant Application Settings.

Introduction

The Search functionality allows you to:

  • Perform searches.
  • Reply, reply all or forward emails from the search results.
  • Access your recent and saved searches.
  • View archived files and documents.
  • Save search criteria.
  • Sort search results according to the date, from, to, and subject.
  • Search in smart tags.

Using Quick Search

You can access Quick Search: by using the following steps:

  1. Ensure you are logged in to Mimecast for Mac.
  2. Select the Quick Search bar from the top right-hand corner of the application.

  3. Complete the search criteria.

  4. Press Enter to perform search or refine your search using the options from drop down list.

By default, searches have a date range of one year, and the subject, body and headers of the message are searched.

The search results are displayed in the message list. To preview a message select it from the list.

Using Advanced Search

You can access Advanced Search by using the following steps:

  1. Ensure you are logged in to Mimecast for Mac.
  2. Select the Advanced Search icon Mimecast for Mac Searching_3 from the top right-hand corner of the application.
  3. Complete the search criteria.

  4. Select Search. The search results are displayed in the message list. To preview a message select it from the list.

Saving Searches

You can save a search, by using the following steps:

  1. Ensure you are logged in to Mimecast for Mac.
  2. Once a search has been competed it can be Saved by selecting the option from the top of the message list.

  3. Enter desired Search Name.

  4. Select Save.

Saved Searches will be listed under the Search section of the left-hand menu. Once a search is saved it is removed from Recent Searches.

Refining Searches

You can refine a search, by using the following steps:

  1. Ensure you are logged in to Mimecast for Mac.
  2. Once a search has been competed it can be Refined by selecting the option from the top of the message list.

  3. Refining a search will open the Advanced Search search criteria dialog.

  4. The search criteria can now be refined and the search re-run.

Recent Searches

You can view your Recent Searches, by using the following steps:

  1. Ensure you are logged in to Mimecast for Mac.
  2. Expand Recent Searches from the Search section of the left-hand menu.

  3. Select a Recent Search to run it.
  4. Right click on a Recent Search to Refine, Save or Delete the search.

Saved Searches

You can access your Saved Searches, by using the following steps:

  1. Ensure you are logged in to Mimecast for Mac.
  2. Expand Saved Searches from the Search section of the left-hand menu.

  3. Select a Saved Search to run it.
  4. Right click on a Saved Search to Edit, Rename or Delete the search.
