DMARC Analyzer 2.0 - Adding Domain to DNS Delegation

This article contains information on the Add Domain to DNS Delegation wizard in Mimecast DMARC Analyzer, which simplifies configuring DMARC, SPF, and DKIM records to ensure proper email authentication and compliance with best practices.

The Configuration consists of three steps:

1. Insert Domain

  • Purpose: Add the domain you want to delegate to Mimecast for DNS management.
  • Action: Enter the domain name in the provided field.
  • Validation: The system checks the domain for eligibility and ensures it is not already delegated.
  • Next Step: Once the domain is validated, click Next to proceed to the DMARC policy configuration.

2. DMARC Policy (Optional)

  • Purpose: Configure the DMARC policy for the domain. This step is optional and can be skipped if you prefer to configure the policy later.
  • Policy Options:
      • None (Recommended):
          • Used for monitoring purposes only.
          • Allows you to gather reports about email authentication results without impacting legitimate email flows.
      • Quarantine:
          • Emails failing DMARC checks are treated as suspicious and placed in the recipient's spam or junk folder.
      • Reject:
          • Emails failing DMARC checks are rejected outright, ensuring they are not delivered to the recipient's inbox.
  • Action: Select the desired policy and click Next to proceed to the summary step.

3. Summary

  • Purpose: Review the domain and DMARC policy configuration before completing the delegation process.
  • Details Displayed:
      • The domain name entered in Step 1.
      • The selected DMARC policy (if configured).
  • Action: Confirm the details and click Finish to complete the delegation process.
  • Outcome: The domain is added to the DNS Delegation page, where you can monitor its status and configure additional DNS records (e.g., SPF and DKIM).

Post-Delegation Actions

Once the domain is added, users can:

  • Monitor Delegation Status: View the domain's delegation status on the DNS Delegation page.
  • Configure Additional Records: Add SPF and DKIM records to complete the email authentication setup.
  • Troubleshoot Issues: Resolve any pending or incomplete setups using the detailed status indicators provided.

Use Cases

  • Simplify DNS Delegation: Use the wizard to streamline the process of delegating DNS records for your domains.
  • Configure DMARC Policies: Set up DMARC policies to monitor, quarantine, or reject unauthorized emails.
  • Ensure Compliance: Delegate DNS records to ensure proper email authentication and compliance with DMARC, SPF, and DKIM protocols.
  • Monitor and Manage Domains: Easily track the status of delegated domains and make updates as needed.
