Email Security Setup Wizard - Inbound Mail (Jersey)

This article contains information on configuring anti-spoofing measures and updating MX records to route inbound emails through Mimecast, ensuring secure email delivery and protection against spoofing attacks.

This article is relevant to the Jersey region only.

Setting up your Inbound Mail in the Email Security Setup Wizard involves:

Anti-Spoofing Bypass

Anti-spoofing will block emails received from any external services sending emails on your behalf. If you are using any third-party services that send emails on your behalf, this bypass is required to allow these emails to be received by internal end-users. Up to 50 IP addresses can be added in this step. If more IP addresses require a bypass, this can be done in the Mimecast Administration Console, once your account is set up.

If you do not wish to do this step right now, click Skip. Anti-Spoofing Bypass policies can be created in the Mimecast Administration Console, once onboarding is complete.

You can set up anti-spoofing bypass, by using the following steps:

Anti-Spoofing Bypass

  1. Enter the required IP Addresses. These should:
  •
    • Each is on a separate line.
    • Be written in CIDR notation (n.n.n.n/x).
  1.  Should there have been an error, select Previous to go back to the previous screen.
  2. If all details are correct, click Next.

MX Records

To route your organization's inbound email through Mimecast, you must update your MX records. This designates Mimecast as the mail server responsible for accepting emails on your behalf.
Use the provided Pref and Hostname for your region to update your MX record. This update is completed outside of the Email Security Setup Wizard.
The process depends on your DNS provider, and therefore the following steps are a general guide:

  1. Log on to your DNS provider account.
  2. Navigate to the MX Record Management page. You may have to enable advanced settings to access this page, which may be located at:
  •
    • DNS Management.
    • Mail Server Configuration.
    • Name Server Management.
  1. Enter the Pref and Hostnames displayed in the application into your MX records.
  2. Save and Validate the change.
  3. Once successfully verified in your DNS provider account, navigate back to the Email Security Setup Wizard

    Verify MX Record
  4. Click Verify MX Record.
  5. If you are onboarding multiple domains, use the drop-down to select your other domains and repeat the above process to verify the MX record of each domain.

Depending on your TTL, it can take up to 72 hours for DNS changes to take effect.

  1. If verification is unsuccessful, check that you have the correct MX records applied to the domain you validated.
  2. Once fully verified, you can proceed to Email Security Setup Wizard - Outbound Mail, or, if this has already been completed, click Next to review your Summary.

Summary

Review the summary of your onboarding information. If correct, click Finish.
You should also follow instructions on Locking Down Your Firewall.
You must contact Professional Services to continue your onboarding if the summary contains incorrect information. To do this, either reply to your initial implementation email, or access your implementation case at the Mimecast Support Center.
