This article contains information on installing the User Portal as a Progressive Web App across all major platforms and deploying it through enterprise MDM/EMM solutions.
Overview
The User Portal can be installed as a Progressive Web App (PWA) for quick, app-like access directly from your device.
Requirements
You will need:
Your organization's User Portal URL (provided by your IT administrator),
An active Mimecast account with User Portal access enabled.
A supported browser (see platform instructions below).
Installation by Platform
The Installation by Platform can be performed on both Windows 10 and Windows 11. The instructions provided below are tailored for each platform and include the necessary steps for installation.
Windows 10/11
Microsoft Edge
Navigate to the User Portal URL | click the Install icon in the address bar, alternatively navigate to Apps | Install this site as an app | click Install.
Google Chrome
Navigate to the User Portal URL | Save and share | Install Page as App | click Install.
After installation, find the app in your Start Menu or search for Mimecast in Windows Search.
macOS
Safari's Add to Dock option requires macOS Sonoma (14.0) or later. Use Chrome or Edge on earlier versions.
Safari (Sonoma 14.0+)
Navigate to the User Portal URL | File | Add to Dock.
Chrome or Edge
Navigate to the User Portal URL | Save and share | Install Page as App (Chrome) alternatively navigate to Apps | Install this site as an app (Edge) | click Install.

Tap Add.
Safari is recommended. Some other browsers support PWA installation on iOS 16.4+, but results may vary.

Enterprise Deployment via MDM/EMM
Administrators can deploy the User Portal PWA to managed devices from a central console, ensuring all users have consistent access without manual installation.
Prerequisites
MDM/EMM platform supporting web app deployment (Intune, Workspace ONE, Jamf, etc.).
Devices enrolled in your MDM platform.
User Portal URL and appropriate licenses.
Microsoft Intune
In the Intune admin center, navigate to Apps | All apps | Add | Web link, then configure:
Name: Mimecast User Portal
App URL: [Your User Portal URL]
Set Assignments to Required (auto-install) or Available (user-initiated), then click Create.
Intune Web Link deployment does not silently install the PWA on iOS. Users must still manually add it to their home screen via Safari. Include instructions in your user communication.
This process is the same for Windows, iOS, and Android, the app type is Web link across all platforms.
VMware Workspace ONE
Navigate to Apps & Books | Applications | Native | Add Application | Web Application.
Set the Application URL to your User Portal URL| assign to Smart Groups and set Assignment Type to Auto or On-Demand.
Click Save & Publish.
Jamf (iOS/macOS)
iOS
Navigate to Mobile Device Apps | + New | Web App.
Set the URL, scope to target devices, and click Save.
macOS
Create a Configuration Profile with bookmarks or use Self Service. Users on Sonoma 14.0+ can add the PWA to their Dock from Safari.
Google Workspace (ChromeOS/Android)
ChromeOS
In Google Administration Console, navigate to Devices | Chrome | Apps & extensions | Add app or extension | Bookmark app.
Enter the URL, set policy to Force install or Force install + pin, and click Save.
Android
Navigate to Devices | Mobile & endpoints | Apps | Add app | Add web app.
Enter the URL and deploy to the relevant organizational units.
Post-Deployment
Recommended settings
Enable notification permissions (for quarantine alerts) and ensure Chrome or Edge is set as the default browser on Windows and Android for the best PWA experience.
After deployment, communicate to users how to locate and launch the app, and any initial setup steps such as enabling notifications.

iOS: Long-press icon | Remove App | Delete App.
Android: Long-press icon | Uninstall, or Settings | Apps | find the portal | Uninstall.
