Quick Start Setup Guide for Mimecast Sync & Recover

This guide will help you quickly set up Mimecast Sync & Recover in your Mimecast account. For detailed documentation, refer to the official Mimecast Sync & Recover page: Mimecast Sync & Recover.

Prerequisites

To use Mimecast Sync & Recover, you need to create a connector; the next step will guide you through it:

  1. Log in to the Mimecast Administration Console.
  2. Navigate to Integrations | Connectors.

  1. Click Create New Connector, then select the option for Sync & Recover

  1. Connect Mimecast to your Microsoft Office 365 by selecting the option below.

  1. You must authenticate to your Office 365 environment with a global admin account and approve the required permissions. Then, provide a description for the connector.
  2. Verify the summary details and proceed to Create/Save the connector.

Now that we have the connection between Mimecast and your Office 365 environment established, we can proceed to configure Sync & Recover.

Accessing Sync & Recover

  1. Log in to the Mimecast Administration Console.
  2. Navigate to Archive | Exchange Sync & Recover.
  1. Click Create New Sync Task button.
  1. Enter a task description and select your created connector from the drop-down menu. 
  1. Configure the Sync Task:
  • Select Source: Choose the mailboxes or user groups to include. This can be a local Mimecast group or an Active Directory group.

    Mimecast recommends limiting group size to 500 user mailboxes per Sync task. There is no limit on the number of Sync Tasks.

  • Set Scope: Define which items to sync (emails, calendar, contacts, etc.).
  • Assign Service Account: Enter the credentials for your prepared service account. 

  1. Managing Synchronization: you will be able to view the status of the mailbox synchronization under Synched Mailboxes.
  2. Export and Restore
  • Restore Options: You can restore entire mailboxes or individual items (emails, folders, contacts, notes, and tasks) as needed.
  • Initiate Recovery: Select the mailbox or item, then choose the restore destination (original or alternate location).
  1. Snapshot Queue: You can view the snapshots of all mailboxes that have been synced to Mimecast and then perform export and restore if necessary. You will be able to view the user’s mailbox folder structure.
