Secure Messaging Notifications
When secure messages are sent, each recipient receives a message indicating they have a secure message in the Secure Messaging Portal. The message includes the default customer name as configured on the Gateway of the company sending the message. These notifications can be customized to fit company-specific text if needed.
Secure Messaging and Secure Messaging-Lite notifications have the private tag.
If privacy is enabled on a shared mailbox, the mailbox will not see the Secure Messaging notifications.
When you have received a secure message, you will be notified with an Email Notification in the following format:
You can retrieve this message, by using the following steps:
- Click on the link in the notification email, and you will be redirected to the Secure Messaging Portal.
- You will be instructed to create a new password.
Ensure the new password meets Mimecast's requirements, displayed below the Create Password fields. Further information on password complexity can be found at Mimecast Account Settings.
-
- A green tick indicates the password meets the criteria.
- A red cross indicates that the password has not met the criteria and will need to be corrected.
- Once you have created a suitable password, click Confirm.
- Enter your email address and password, then click Log In.
Both the Email Notification and Secure Messaging Portal support Branding and Customizing.
You should now be able to retrieve your secure message.
You can configure a notification, allowing you to change HTML and plain text that forms part of your branding. To configure a notification sets read: Notification Sets - Configuring Notification Sets

Branding
The Secure Messaging Portal is used by both internal and external users alike. With Secure Messaging, you can add your corporate branding, including your company colors and logo, to your company's messages. The configurations made here can also be applied to your Secure Messaging notifications.
Secure Messaging allows users to send messages externally, creating login credentials for recipients.
When configuring the portal, advise external parties of their obligations, including instructions against unauthorized access and logon credentials intended for recipients only. Retain the confidentiality of all email content as the organization's property.
Next Steps
- Log in to the Mimecast Administration Console.
- Navigate to Account | Branding.
- Create the Branding Set. See Account - Branding.
- Create/change Definitions and Policies, which includes the Secure Messaging notifications.
- Apply branding to the notification sets, as described in the Notification Set Branding Adjustment page.
