Account - Branding

This article describes how to configure Branding, which can be set to apply on outbound emails and Mimecast End-User applications, and is intended for Administrators.

Overview

Branding enables you to apply custom brand elements to external facing portals and notifications, giving your customers clear indication that the Portals and messages are provided by you.
This helps with marketing your brand, and giving the user the reassurance that this is your service.

The Mimecast services that support branding are:

  • Secure Messaging.
  • Large File Send.
  • Mimecast Personal Portal.
  • Targeted Threat Protection.
  • Notifications.
  • Mimecast for Outlook. See Mimecast for Outlook - Branding.

Although it's possible to take a branding URL and apply it to other Mimecast endpoints, Branding is only fully supported in the Mimecast applications listed above.

As part of the configuration of these brand elements, a subdomain URL is created to personalize the portal for the organization. It is also possible to have multiple custom URLs if required.

Branding provides the following functionality:

  • Portal decolorizing: This helps to set neutral color schemes for backgrounds and buttons to suit your brand.
  • Application of a logo to the Login and Inbox pages: The standard Mimecast logo will be replaced with the new logo, and a "Powered by Mimecast" logo will be auto-added.
  • Application of a Favicon in the browser address toolbar.
  • Modification of the Login page title.
  • Adjustment of the standard hyperlinks on the Login page.
  • Addition of a Login page disclaimer message.

Prerequisites

  • You have Administrator access to the Policies and Branding sections of the Mimecast Administration Console.
  • You have prepared the following corporate branding elements:
    • Your company name, as you want it to display in your branded portal.
    • A name to prefix your branded portal with.
  • Optionally, you can prepare:
    • Your primary corporate colors.
    • Your corporate logo, to be used on the login and inbox pages, and notifications.
    • Mobile Icon.
    • A favicon for use in browser address bars, history, and bookmarks.
    • Text to add as a disclaimer on the Login page.
    • Customised Login page labels and hyperlinks, for:
      • Home.
      • Knowledge Base.
      • Support.

Managing Branding Sets

Creating a Branding Set

You can create a Branding Set, by using the following steps:

  1. Log in to the Mimecast Administration Console.
  2. Navigate to Account | Branding.
  3. Enter details for the Branding Set:
  • Branding Set Name: Specify a name for the branding set.
  • Company Display Name: Specify the name of your company, as you want it to be displayed in the branding set.
  • URL Prefix: Specify a prefix that forms the first part of the URL used to access Mimecast. A separate page must be created for each customer.
This is especially important for MSPs. For example, a URL prefix of "mypage" in North America will result in a URL of https://mypage.login-country.mimecast.com/ where:
    • "mypage" is typically the company name.
    • "login-country" is the sub-domain (e.g. login-na).

This URL is just a prefix, and needs a suffix adding to it manually, for for it to point to the correct portal. These are:

Application Suffix Example
Mimecast Personal Portal /m/portal/login/#/login https://mypage.login-country.mimecast.com/m/portal/login/#/login
Secure Messaging /m/secure/login/#/login https://mypage.login-country.mimecast.com/m/secure/login/#/login

Ensure you specify a company name or a name that matches the company URL you intend to use.

Once the URL Prefix has been saved, it cannot be changed. Click Check Availability to ensure the prefix's availability. Ensure you only specify a URL Prefix valid for your company and intended for a live deployment. The following prefixes cannot be used: -console, -ccm, -lfs, -login, -mimecast, -mpp, pr -sm.
  • Common Elements section: Specify your corporate colors, using the branding examples to help you.
Common Elements
  • Custom Logo for Apps and Email Notifications section: Specify your company logo. Follow the guidance on screen to ensure you use the correct file size, file type, and dimensions.
Custom Logo
  • Log In Page section: Add Disclaimer Title and Disclaimer Body, as required.
Additionally, you can add Custom Links. For example, instead of Contact Support, this could be renamed Disclaimer, with a URL link to the company's more detailed disclaimer information. If no information is added to any of the fields, the Mimecast default names and links are used.
  1. Click on Save and Exit

The branded Portal sites are now available for use using your unique URL, although there may be a delay before these changes are visible due to caching.

Mimecast automatically decolorizes the background and button colors when creating a new Branding Definition.

Enabling / Disabling a Branding Set

Branding with Multiple Notification Sets

If there are multiple notification sets, the following rules are applied:

    • The branding of the Notification Set Definition with the most specific Notification Set Policy for the recipient is applied.
    • If that Notification Set doesn't hold branding, the branding of the default Notification Set is used.
    • If neither of them hold branding, no branding is applied.
