Overview
You can upload your educational video, poster, and knowledge questions to the Mimecast Awareness Training platform. Once uploaded, the Custom Modules can be:
- Scheduled as part of one or more Targeted Training campaigns. There is no limit to the number of campaigns a module can be added to.
- Sent to all employees. There is no restriction on the number of employees.
Prerequisites
To create a Custom Module, you'll need:
- The awareness training content in either an:
- MP4 file of no more than 250 MB in size. The content length must be 10 minutes or under.
- PDF file of no more than 10 MB in size.
- A PNG, JPG, GIF, or BMP file of no more than 5 MB in size to act as a movie poster. The administrator and users see this when the module is listed in the dashboard and user library.
- At least one knowledge question, up to a maximum of three questions per module. Each question can have a:
- Minimum of two and a maximum of four answers.
- Optional learning moment text.
Considerations
- Custom Modules are unavailable if the Login Free Awareness Training option in Account Settings is enabled. See Mimecast Account Settings.
- Up to four Custom Modules can be created with the base license.
- Custom Modules cannot be scheduled as part of the Company Wide Training module queue.
- Custom Modules cannot issue reminder notifications.
- The user statistic results:
- Are self-contained in the custom module Targeted Training queue.
- Include answers to all the knowledge questions on a per-user basis.
- Do not impact the user or company Risk Scores.
Creating a Custom Module
You can create a Custom Module, by using the following steps:
- Log in to the Mimecast Awareness Training platform.
- Navigate to Training Queues | Content Library.
- Scroll toward the button on the page to the Custom Modules section.
- Click the "+" on the Create Module window and edit the Name Your Module field.

Click on Next.
This can contain up to 25 alphanumeric characters, including spaces and apostrophes. No special characters are allowed.
- Upload the Awareness Training custom content as an MP4 or PDF file by either:
- Dragging the file into the dialog.
- Clicking on the Click here to browse link and selecting the file.
- When the file has completed uploading, you can:
- Preview the uploaded file.
- Click on the Re-Upload File button to upload a different file.
- Click on Next.
- Upload the Movie Poster file as a JPG, PNG, GIF, or BMP file by either:
- Dragging the file into the dialog.
- Clicking on the Click Here to Browse link and selecting the file.
- Click on Next.
- Configure a Knowledge Question by completing the following fields
- Type Your Question Here: Enter the action you want users to take (e.g. Select the best answer).
- Enter the Scenario Here: Describe the scenario covered by the knowledge question.

Answers: Enter a minimum of two and a maximum of four answers:
- Click on the Add Another Answer Choice button to add another answer.
- Click the button to select the Correct Answer.
- Explanation for Answer Here: Optionally enter some learning moment text. This is displayed to the user to describe why the correct answer is the best choice.
- Add additional questions, up to three, as needed.
This can contain up to 25 alphanumeric characters, including spaces and apostrophes. No special characters are allowed.
- Click on Save and Continue.
- You will see that your Module is ready to preview, or you can click Exit.
Scheduling a Custom Module
The process for scheduling a Custom Module for Targeted Training is the same as a standard Targeted Training module. See the Scheduling Targeted Training section of Scheduling Targeted Training.
Editing a Custom Module
You can edit a Custom Module if it has not been added to a Targeted Queue, by using the following steps:
- Log in to the Mimecast Awareness Training platform.
- Navigate to Training Queues | Content Library.
- Scroll down to the Custom Modules and click the Edit button in the Custom Module you wish to edit.
- Step through the wizard, making changes as required.
- Click on Update.
- Click on either:
- Back to step back through the wizard and make additional changes.
- Preview Module to preview the custom module before accepting the changes.
- Exit to accept the changes and return to the module queue.
Copying a Custom Module
When a Custom Module is copied, you have the option to change any details at the same time.
You can copy a Custom Module, by using the following steps:
- Log in to the Mimecast Awareness Training platform.
- Navigate to Training Queues | Content Library.
- Click on the Copy icon in the module's top right corner.
- Change the Name of the custom module.
- Step through the wizard, making changes as required.
- Click on either:
- Back to step back through the wizard and make additional changes.
- Preview Module to preview the custom module before accepting the changes.
- Exit to accept the changes and return to the module queue.
Deleting a Custom Module
You can delete a Custom Module unless it has been added to the Targeted Training queue, by using the following steps:
- Log in to the Mimecast Awareness Training platform.
- Navigate to Training Queues | Content Library.
- Locate the Custom Module to be deleted.
- Click on the Delete icon in the module's top left corner.
- Click on Confirm, if you want the module deleted.
Custom Module Campaign Statistics
The results from Custom campaigns are displayed under Targeted Training, in the campaign window. The campaign's results do not populate the dashboard's performance results or impact the company or user Human Risk scores. The results will include the following user responses:

| NOT SENT | The campaign email was not sent to the user. |
| SENT | The campaign email was sent to the user. |
| CORRECT | The user correctly answered the question. |
| INCORRECT | The user incorrectly answered the question. |
The results for each knowledge question are available in the campaign window and can be exported to an XLS file. Campaign question results are compared once the module is released.
