This article contains information on configuring Microsoft 365 or Hybrid Exchange directory synchronization with Mimecast, including synchronization timings, journaling setup, and steps for managing user, group, and membership attributes.
If you use Microsoft 365 or a Hybrid Exchange with Microsoft Azure Active Directory, we can automatically synchronize with Microsoft Azure to add and manage your user, group, and group membership attributes.
Due to recent updates, you can no longer create your Azure Active Directory Synchronization Integration via the Connect app. Instead, following this guidance, you must configure this integration within the Administration Console.
Directory Synchronization Timings
A synchronization of your Active Directory will be initiated daily during the following time windows:
- Between 8 am and 11 am
- Between 1 pm and 4 pm
- Between 12 am and 3 am
The timings are based on the Mimecast region where your account is held (e.g., Europe, North America, South Africa, Australia). For the Europe region, the timing is in the GMT zone. The time for the North American region is in the EST time zone. If you're in a different region or time zone than your Mimecast account, the synchronization timings won't be in your time zone. For example, if your Mimecast account is:
- Located in the US region, but you're located in the Pacific Time Zone.
- Located in the Europe region, but you're located in Germany.
Whilst synchronization is automatically triggered at set times, some factors control when you can see its results. These include the following:
- Size of your Active Directory
- Number of changes
- Server load
