This article provides a list of frequently asked questions and answers relating to Archiving for Microsoft Teams.
| Q: | How does retention work with Archive for Microsoft teams? |
| A: | Team’s data is stored in the Microsoft Archive in accordance with your email retention period set on your Mimecast account (i.e. if you had a 2-year retention on email by default this would be the same for Teams). |
| Q: | How many connectors and sync tasks do I need to archive Microsoft Teams data? |
| A: | Only one connector should be created per Microsoft Teams TenantID. Only one IM Sync Task (Active) and one IM Sync Task (Legacy) should be created per Microsoft Teams TenantID |
| Q: | Can I edit a connector of an IM Sync Task? |
| A: | Updating the connector of an IM Sync Task is not possible. If the connector needs to be edited- the Archive for Teams setup will need to be repeated. |
| Q: | What happens to attachments that are sent in Teams? |
| A: | Attachments with a clean status can be downloaded. Malicious or suspicious attachments cannot be downloaded. |
| Q: | Will all attachments sent in Teams be transferred to the Mimecast Archive? |
| A: | Attachment syncing is restricted by size. Attachments over 100MB will not be synced but metadata will be retrieved and archived. |
| Q: | How does legacy data / ingestion work for Archive for Microsoft Teams? |
| A: | When the Sync Task is created, both a daily active sync task as well as a legacy data sync task are created. The legacy data sync task goes back in line with the accounts retention policy and syncs through the historic data (i.e. if retention is 1 year, it will call to sync the last year's data). This means there is no separate project/workload that needs to be undertaken as this task is created when the sync task is. |

| A: | Messages are expected to show in Case Review after 48 hours. |
| Q: | Is a Microsoft 365 E5 license required to support Archive for Microsoft Teams? |

No. Any active Microsoft 365 license that includes Microsoft Teams. They include:

| Q: | Are Microsoft Teams conversations archived, if they were started by an external user? |
| A: | No. If a Microsoft Teams conversation was started by an external user, the conversation will be assigned to the external organization's TenantID and will not be archived. If you delete the conversation and start a new one with the same external user, it will not change this. Mimecast can only archive conversations assigned to your TenantID. |
