This article contains information on blocking senders and reporting spam or phishing messages in Mimecast for Mac, including steps to manage blocked senders and report suspicious emails for enhanced email security.
Introduction
The difference between blocking and reporting actions is as follows:
- Blocking a sender's address or domain adds the sender's address or domain to your personal blocked senders list.
-
Reporting a message as spam or phishing automatically triggers the following actions:
- The message is moved to your Junk E-Mail folder.
- The sender of the message is added to your Blocked Senders list.
- The message is forwarded to the Mimecast Security Team for analysis.
Blocking a Sender's Address or Domain
You can block a sender's address or domain, by using the following steps:
- Open the Mimecast for Mac application, and ensure you are logged in.
- Click on the required message.
- Right click the Contact.
- Click on either:
- Block Sender.
- Block Domain.
When selecting Block Domain, be aware that Mimecast for Mac does not display a warning that this action will block all emails from that domain. Consider this carefully before blocking an entire domain, especially for commonly used domains.

Administrators can trace reports from the Mimecast Administration Console, under Audit Logs. See Filtering Audit Logs for more information.
