Overview
This article provides comprehensive guidance on configuring your account. It includes instructions for setting up emergency contacts and selecting as well as configuring various mail infrastructures, including Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, On-Premises, Hybrid, and others. Furthermore, the Account Configuration Wizard is used to validate domains, encompassing a series of steps for domain validation. This process ensures that domains are accurately configured for use within the Mimecast system.
Prerequisites
To access Account Configuration, the logged-in user must have a Basic Admin role or higher assigned to them.
The Account Configurations Wizard can be found under the Mimecast Administration Console | Account | Onboarding Menu. Customers can configure it as part of the onboarding process for 90 days.
For successful onboarding, it is important to ensure that pop-up blockers are disabled prior to starting the onboarding journey.
Emergency Contact
It is essential to designate an Emergency Contact for your Mimecast account. Mimecast will only reach out to the Emergency Contact in specific account-related situations, such as spam outbreaks or mail loops. We recommend that the details of the Emergency Contact match those of your Mimecast account's primary administrator.
To enter your Emergency Contact, please follow these steps:
Input the Name of the Emergency Contact.
Provide the Emergency Contact's Email address.
Enter the Emergency Contact's Mobile number.
Click Next.
Mail Infrastructure
Administrators can select the most suitable mail infrastructure. Supported infrastructures include Microsoft 365, On-Premises, Google Workspace, Hybrid with M365, Hybrid with Google Workspace, or Other Email Hosting Provider (such as Hosted Exchange, Exchange 2003, or Lotus Domino)
Microsoft 365
When you select Microsoft 365, it indicates that Microsoft is responsible for hosting the email server for your domain. In this configuration, outbound mail will only be routed to Mimecast from Microsoft 365.
To configure the settings for Microsoft 365, follow these steps:
Choose Microsoft 365 from the Select your infrastructure drop-down menu and click Next to proceed.
Click Next to continue with domain validation.
Google Workspace
When you select Google Workspace, it indicates that your organization is utilizing Google Workspace.
To configure settings for Google Workspace, follow these steps:
Choose Google Workspace from the Select your infrastructure drop-down menu.
Click Next to proceed with domain validation.
On-Premises
If you select On-Premises, it signifies that your organization is using an On-Premises exchange.
To configure settings for On-Premises, adhere to these steps:
Select On-Premises from the Email Hosting Provider options.
Click Next to continue with domain validation.
Hybrid with Google Workspace
Selecting Hybrid with Google Workspace indicates that your organization utilizes a blend of On-Premises infrastructure and Google Workspace.
To configure settings for the Hybrid with Google Workspace, follow these steps:
Choose Hybrid with Google Workspace from the Email Hosting Provider options.
Click Next to proceed with domain validation.
Hybrid with Microsoft 365
If Hybrid with Microsoft 365 is selected, this means that the organization is using a combination of On-Premises and with Microsoft 365.
You can configure settings for Hybrid with Microsoft 365 by using the following steps:
Select Hybrid with Microsoft 365 from the Email Hosting Provider options.
Click Next to continue with domain validation.
Other Email Hosting Provider
If you have selected an alternative email hosting provider, please reach out to Mimecast Professional Services to proceed with the onboarding process.

Microsoft 365 Tenant Domain Verification in Mimecast
To ensure that the Mimecast Message Transfer Agent (MTA) accepts your outbound communications for further processing, it must verify that these communications originate from your Microsoft tenant. This verification is accomplished using the certificate that Microsoft provides by default, along with extensions and information exchanged during the SMTP session. A crucial part of this process is your Microsoft 365 Tenant Domain, which must be included in your Mimecast account. As a result, your Tenant Domain will always be added as part of the consent-driven domain validation steps and cannot be unselected when adding domains
Repeat as Needed: You can repeat this process to add more domains in the future.
Validating Domains for Other Email Hosting Providers (Non-M365):
You can validate your domains by following these steps:
Enter your domain. You can input up to 50 domains.
Click Next.
You will see details of the TXT and CNAME records for each domain entered.
Copy and paste the generated target into your DNS provider. For the required steps for common registrars, refer to the Add TXT Records for Internal Domain Verification article.
Click Validate to validate an individual domain or Validate All to validate all domains.
Verification can take between 5 minutes and 72 hours. You do not need to keep the Account Configuration Wizard open during this time.
To validate more domains, click on the Domain Validation Step**.**
Once all your domains are validated, click Next.
Tip: Set your DNS TTL to 600 seconds before making changes for a smoother cutover.
