You are able to select to either setup Outbound Mail tasks prior to Inbound Mail tasks, or vice versa.

  •  Selecting to setup Outbound first allows Mimecast systems to learn about messaging habits and ensure a smooth transition to Mimecast. To maintain security, outbound mail will be processed by Mimecast before being delivered to the recipient.
  • Selecting to setup Inbound first means that all mail will be processed according to your Mimecast configured policies before being passed to your environment and is recommended if urgent protection of your inbound message environment is required.

Locking Down Your Firewall

Upon completing the onboarding process, it is crucial for customers who purchase Email Security products to secure their firewall, by allowing connections only from the Mimecast data center IP ranges. Failing to configure the firewall correctly can leave your mail server vulnerable to Denial of Service (DoS) attacks and spam email delivery, as spammers often exploit this vulnerability to bypass gateway security services. Remember to terminate any contracts with your previous email cloud security provider to avoid disruptions to your email flow before finalizing the firewall lockdown.
