This article contains information on removing the Archive Search feature from Mimecast applications, including steps to disable it and the resulting changes to the user experience across Mimecast for Outlook, Mimecast for Mac, Mimecast Mobile, and the Mimecast Personal Portal.
Introduction
Archive Search functionality is included in the following applications:
- Mimecast for Outlook.
- Mimecast for Mac.
- Mimecast Mobile.
- Mimecast Personal Portal.
Application Settings allow you to control End User Application behavior and the levels of access your end users have to Mimecast Services. See Configuring Application Settings.
Removing Archive Search
You can remove the Archive Search feature from view in End User Applications, by using the following steps:
1. Navigate to Administration | Services | Applications.
2. Click on an existing Application Settings Definition, (or click “New Application Settings, or right-click to create a Clone of an existing definition, depending on the scenario).
3. Scroll to the Archive Settings section.
4. Uncheck the box named Archive Search.
5. Uncheck the box named Export Items from Archive (if present).
6. Uncheck the box named View Smart Tags (if present).
7. Click Save and Exit.
Wait 15 minutes to see the change in the end-user applications.
User Experience
If your administrator has disabled Archive Search, the following are no longer available:
Mimecast for Outlook
- The search function on the Archive section once the search on the Mimecast tab is selected.
- Search from the Inbox.
- The search function on the Online Inbox section once the search on the Mimecast tab is selected.

Mimecast for Mac
- Quick Search: The Search bar in the top right-hand corner is inaccessible.
- Advanced Search: The Search icon in the top right-hand corner is inaccessible.
- Saved and Recent searches: The Search component from the navigation menu on the left side of the screen is not visible.

Mimecast Mobile
- Quick Search: The Search icon at the top of the view is not accessible when in Online Inbox or Online Sent items.
- Advanced Search, Saved and Recent searches: The Search component of the main menu is not visible.

Mimecast Personal Portal
- Quick Search: The Search bar at the top of message lists is not visible.
- Advance Search: The Search icon from the top right-hand corner is inaccessible.
- Saved and Recent searches: The Search icon on the left-hand hand menu is not accessible.
