This article provides essential information for preparing your environment for the Email Security Setup Wizard, including account setup, configuring Directory Integrations, and establishing outbound and inbound mail configurations, as well as journaling and firewall security. These steps are crucial for ensuring a smooth onboarding process with Mimecast.
Prerequisites
Before you begin the wizard, ensure that your environment is ready. Please review and follow the Email Security Onboarding Checklist. This checklist contains vital information to facilitate a seamless onboarding experience.
For successful onboarding, it is important to ensure that pop-up blockers are disabled prior to starting the onboarding journey.
Mimecast offers Wizards to all customers who purchase the Secure Email Gateway product. These onboarding Wizards allow customers to configure their Email Security product for a period of 90 days.
After this initial 90-day period, customers can utilize the standard Administration Console account management screens to make any additional changes. Upon purchasing the Secure Email Gateway product, the primary implementation lead will receive an email with initial login details and instructions to begin the onboarding process with Mimecast.
To get started, click on the link provided in the Welcome Email. Alternatively, customers can log in to the Mimecast Administration Console and navigate to Accounts | Onboarding.
Please note that the logged-in user must have a Basic Admin role or higher to complete onboarding tasks.

Directory Integration
Integrate your directory so that Mimecast can recognise your users and groups. Various types of Directory Synchronization are supported. The directory information can later be utilised for account configuration and policy application. When configured, the Wizard will enhance protection by updating the Recipient Validation check of your validated domains to “Known Recipients Only.”

Mail Flow Configuration
Mimecast offers customers the option to utilize Mail Protection through a Gateway model, where it filters and blocks threats before they reach the user's mailbox. Configuring the Gateway requires routing your Outbound and Inbound Mail by setting up delivery routing, SPF records, Mail Routing, Forwarding addresses, Anti-Spoofing, and MX records.
For more detailed guidance, please refer to the following article: Onboarding - Mail Flow Configuration.
Additionally, Mimecast has introduced a new Integrated model in which Mimecast will no longer function as a gateway. Instead, it will remediate the user's mailbox based on a copy of the received email.

Additional Supporting Documents for Configuring Mimecast Gateway
Configuring Journaling
Journaling transfers copies of all internal emails from your email servers to Mimecast, ensuring a complete archive of all organizational emails is stored in a secure, searchable off-site environment. You can configure rules to capture internal email communications, allowing inbound, outbound, and internal emails to be archived and processed through security policies.
